On February 24th and 25, the Wisconsin Highschool Esports Association held their Winter State Championships (Held at North Central Technical College in Wausau) featuring competitions for Rocket League and OverWatch 2. Each game had 12 schools represented from around the state, many of which was their first time competing in a state championship esports event. Attendance was over 250+ between spectators and participants. There were seven universities onsite providing recruitment and enrollment information.

Republican lawmakers recently circulated legislation that would create a tax credit aimed at attracting video game companies to Wisconsin.  Under the legislation, an owner of a copyright in “digital interactive media or entertainment” — such as a video game development studio — could get a refundable income tax credit equal to 30% of the qualifying salary or wages and 30% of other related spending in Wisconsin. That could include purchases of software and equipment as well as leasing facilities. Read more about the legislation, below:

 

A new state of the art gaming facility recently opened in Beaver Dam! “The Bank Esports” opened around the new year in a former Chase Bank location. Technology services firm InterQuest is the organization behind the effort. The facility currently has 12 PCs, two racing simulators, a golfing simulator and other awesome attractions! East Troy Highschool recently opened a new Esports Lab! The facility was able to be built through a local grant. Check out the facility below!
