25 Oct What to do at this years MGC, from WaukeshaGameHunter
The following is graciously written opinion piece by local gamer and collector, WaukeshaGameHunter, around his plan for the upcoming Midwest Gaming Classic. Interested attendees can purchase tickets to the event, here.
It’s Back!
After a year and a half hiatus, the Midwest Gaming Classic returns to the Wisconsin Center, Friday November 5th through November 7th in beautiful downtown Milwaukee.
One of the best sites to behold is seeing the vendor hall filled with not just video games, toys and collectibles spanning many decades, but seeing a crowd of enthusiastic shoppers all in one place to support a growing hobby and local retailers.
Everyone in attendance has their sites set on maybe scoring that holy grail game or picking up a few filler titles to add to their collection. Some just there as a casual hobbyist looking to find a rarity. Others overcome with that rush of nostalgia when they see a booth setup with video games and toys taking them back to their youth.
What’s on my schedule for the event
Every year for me, I usually have a “shopping list” of specific games I am looking for to add to my personal collection. A wide mix of titles spanning numerous classic consoles. I hit each booth looking to cross those off my list as the day goes by. My personal joys are collecting for the SNES and PlayStation 1. These two generations of consoles best symbolize my youth and are my favorite to collect for.
This year I am going in with a much smaller list as over the years I have filled in those missing gaps in my collection. With only 2 titles left to complete my entire N64 collection, those will be my focal points. Not having to feel like I’m in competition to snag multiple titles quickly before they are gone will give me more of an opportunity to relax and take my time at vendor booths to cycle through the available inventory. I may find a diamond in the rough. Finding nice boxes to fully box-up my original Donkey Kong County Trilogy is also one of my main goals this year. A trilogy that defined my early teenage years.
Once the shopping and collecting part of the experience is done, there is plenty more to enjoy in the second hall that is setup with rows upon rows of classic consoles, arcade games, tabletop games, pinball machines and so much more. Meet and Greets with industry greats and game actors are always fun and this year there is no shortage. Ranging from Youtube Star John Riggs, Mortal Kombat game actors Daniel Pesina and Anthony Marquez, the voice of Bowser Scott Burns and the iconic voice of Alpha 5 Richard Horvitz.
Putting Together a Plan
Trying to see everything overt the course of 3 days can be taxing. Planning to attend all day Saturday and part of Sunday, I plan to see as much as I can and enjoy that freedom that video games have brought me my whole life.
I hope to see many of you there!
