  • Angelica Chapman-Sykes

 

What Organization do you represent? (As it relates to why you’d be getting highlighted in an Esports Newsletter)

  • I proudly represent both the Miss Beloit Scholarship Organization and Miss America Opportunity. I earned a degree in video game development, and I worked at a video game company. I leverage my role as Miss Beloit to advocate for diversity within the video game industry. Winning the Miss Beloit pageant and competing for Miss Wisconsin was a testament to my passion for gaming because my community service project is called “Game Changers: Diversifying STEAM through Video Games.” The project aims to provide gaming workshops for young individuals and promote diversity and inclusivity in STEAM fields.

 

Why do you personally believe esports is important, both to our region and in general?

  • Esports is experiencing a rise in popularity worldwide with its thrilling competitions. An increasing number of colleges have varsity esports teams and provide scholarships for players. It encourages skills such as teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and strategic thinking. Furthermore, esports cultivates vibrant communities for video game lovers.

 

What games did you grow up playing and what are you playing the most now?

  • I spent my childhood playing games like Guitar Hero, Lego Batman, Lego Starwars, Donkey Kong, Super Mario Bros, Just Dance, Alice: Madness Returns, Sims, Dead Island, GTA, and Portal.  I’m playing Breath of the Wild, Baldur’s Gate 3, Sims, GTA, Bit Life , Apex Legends, and Animal Crossing.

 

If you could only play one game for the rest of your life, what would it be?

  • GTA online because I feel relaxed when I play it.
